That free U2 album – PR triumph or disaster?

I’m sure if you are involved in music or a fan of music then you’ll be only too aware of the ‘free giveaway’ of the new U2 album by Apple to its entire iTunes customer base to mark the launch of the new iPhone 6. But in hindsight, has it been a PR triumph or disaster for Apple, and also U2? Personally, I’m a U2 fan but what about all those people who aren’t. How do you feel about the possibility of having an unwanted release dumped in your iTunes library? What does all this say about people’s perception of the value of music? How much ‘business’ was done around this deal? Here’s an interesting article from the UK’s Independent newspaper – one of the many, many articles on the subject. It does look at various aspects, view points and possible consequences of this PR event. Click on the link: http://www.independent.co.uk/arts-entertainment/music/features/free-u2-album
