Album Description
Jonathan Day works as a musician, writer and image-maker. SAKURA is his fourth album and it has already been described as “Extraordinary” by the BBC. He performs internationally, most recently in North Africa as part of ‘Festival in the Desert’ and previously in Jamaica, Australia, Hong Kong, China, India, Finland, Thailand, the United States and China. In the summer of 2022 he played a festival tour culminating in a main stage performance at ‘Bestival’, attended by 15,000 people.
Speaking of the beautiful, atmospheric, contemporary folk SAKURA album Jonathan stated, “The album took it’s own course – and is not at all what I was anticipating. I thought I might produce something quite orchestrated and perhaps experimental – traveling new directions and exploring new sounds. Instead the songs that came are in many ways quite traditional, instrumentally less eclectic and thematically, I suspect, more familiar. Above everything else the album seems to celebrate moments – remembered and imagined – particular times and places that I came to see have real power in my tiny microhistory. What ties this collection together in the end is love. As I say – it took it’s own course.”
