Album Description
Even though Ilene Barnes is an American citizen born in Detroit (Michigan), she eventually settled down in Europe and has now mainly focused her career in France and mainland Europe. Ilene belongs to that category of American artists who has invented their own “America in France“ following the likes of Josephine Baker, Ben Harper and Calvin Russell amongst others. However, as a singer songwriter, Ilene has no frontiers and can easily travel with her personal musical style, from jazz to folk, World to rock and then back to gospel.
Ilene is a contralto singer songwriter without limits. One music critic summed up her voice perfectly – It’s the voice of a storm, a high tide, a cathedral, one of those voices that over shadows the microphone, at times primal and yet also sophisticated.
This live concert was recorded and broadcast in January 2007 in the intimate studios of French radio station FIP in Paris with a crowd packed in. Such was the quality of the recording as well as the atmosphere and reaction of the crowd that it was decided to release the album as an official release. So here it is. It perfectly highlights the dynamic and engaging live performer that Ilene is. Capture her in all her glory
